How many routine tasks do you perform a day? So routine you don’t even think when you do them. They are just part of what you do. Then you face an important task. You devote every ounce of energy to this task to perform it to the best of your ability. Sunday rolls around and it is time for church. What category does your worship fall into? Is it like one of your routine tasks or is it real? Do you go through the motions and just show up? Or are you real with your worship? Do you open your heart and give God your love and devotion? David believed music was such an important part of worship he established song leaders and choirs to perform regularly at the temple (One Chronicles 6:31). David played his harp for King Saul and wrote many of the songs found in the book of Psalms. What is your attitude toward worship? Are you joyful as you come into God’s presence? Psalm 100:4 tells us to remember God’s goodness. We are to worship God with thanksgiving and praise. Preparation for worship is important. How do you prepare? I know it is difficult at times to clear your mind and leave your problems outside the worship center. Forget the traffic, forget where you are going to have lunch and forget the meeting in work tomorrow. Worship is not another task in your busy life. You are there to worship God. It is all about him and only him. Pray for God to open your heart for worship. Worship God by taking in the words of the songs and message. Allow these words to become a part of your being. Make worshiping God the center of your life. Worshiping God as a church family pleases our Lord. Yet worship goes beyond the one hour we spend in church on Sunday. We worship and honor God by the way we live, Jeremiah 7:3 in part says, “Reform your ways and actions…” Throughout the week, are you carrying the words you heard in Sunday worship in your heart and into the world? You worship God knowing he is constantly present in your life and carrying out his will. He is there for guidance, comfort, and for our worship. This week use one or two of your senses to worship God. Worship God when you see the sun set behind the mountains or when you hear the cooing of a morning dove. Worship God after a spring rain and allow the cleanness of the air to fill your nostrils. Worship God when you bend to feel the petal of fresh flower and worship him when you sit to eat a meal and taste the food he has abundantly provided. Look back on the week and recall God’s blessings. Give thanks and praise to our Lord for all he does. I venture to say your worship time on Sunday will take on more depth, passion and love for our God. |
